BVA Coaching Staff

Our coaching staff is made up of Division 1 and 2 College Coaches, former collegiate players, and top high school coaches committed to enhancing the game of volleyball. BVA is committed to hiring, training, and retaining the most experienced coaches in Western North Carolina. Our coaching staff is talented, dedicated, and committed to the development of our student- athletes.



Frederico is the Head Volleyball Coach at UNC Asheville (2011- present).  The former Bulldog assistant came back home in June of 2011 after serving as head coach at Barry University in Miami for three seasons. Santos coached with BVA from 2001-2008 & returned to BVA in 2011.
A native of Brazil, Santos has more than 20 years of international playing and coaching experience at all levels of the sport. He spent eight seasons at UNC Asheville, including the last three as associate head coach under former head coach Julie Torbett. Santos assisted in all phases of the Bulldog program, including recruiting, on-court coaching, travel and pre-game setup.


Jen has coached with BVA for 17 Years; she has served as Athletic Director for 3 years  & Assistant Director for the past 7 years.  Jen is the current Assistant volleyball coach at UNC Asheville and the former assistant coach at Mars Hill University. Previous experience includes head coach at North Henderson High School from 2001-2006. She played at UNC Asheville and earned All Conference, All Tournament and All Academic honors.


Rhesa has a background in Business Management & Marketing. She has served as BVA’s Executive Director  & Director of the Jr Hi Neighbor Volleyball Tournament for 7 years. Rhesa played collegiate volleyball at the University of Montevallo in Alabama where she earned Freshman Player of the Year and First Team All- Conference honors. Rhesa coached for 3 years at Asheville High School (2011-2013)  and has coached with BVA for 11 years.


Amanda has coached with BVA for 8 Years. This will be her 4th year serving as Operations Director. She also directed the BVA Sand Volleyball League and coaches for our Recreational Program. She was the Erwin High School Head Coach from 2007-2014. Amanda played collegiate volleyball at Eastern Connecticut State University.


Kristin has coached with BVA for 5 years. This is Kristin’s 3rd year serving as Administrative Manager & Co-Tournament Director of the Jr Hi Neighbor Volleyball Tournament. Kristin is the Head Volleyball Coach at Carolina Day School. Kristin finished up her collegiate career at Florida Tech in Melbourne, FL; she was the starting middle blocker for the Panthers & was an All-Region selection at Florida Tech her senior year and finished the year 16th in the nation for Kills {Div. II}.   She was also the assistant coach at Florida Tech in 1998.  Kristin has over 14 years of club coaching experience in Florida and West Virginia.


Cindi is returning to BVA after serving as the assistant coach at East Carolina University for 3 years and 2 years as Graduate Assistant. Prior to that Cindi was the assistant at Winthrop University for 1 season. Cindi is a UNC Asheville Alumni where she was named First Team All-Conference for the Big South. This will be Cindi’s 4th year coaching with BVA.


Loni is the assistant coach at UNC-Asheville. She is from California & played club volleyball for Force Volleyball Club & NCVC from ages 11-18. Highlights from her club career include a 17th place finish in the Open division at the Junior National Championship her Junior year and a 5th place finish in the Open division at the JNC her Senior year. In addition to an outstanding club career, she also helped lead her high school team to a 2nd place finish at the 2012 State Championship Division 1 tournament and a 2012 Northern California State title. She started her collegiate volleyball career at Montana State University as an outside hitter; 2013-2015 and finished her remaining season at Campbell University. This is Loni’s first year coaching with BVA & we are happy to have her join the BVA coaching staff.

Tim is the head coach at Asheville School where he’s coached for the past eleven years. This will be his third season with BVA. Before moving to Asheville he was the head varsity coach of Pace Academy in Atlanta, he coached at Kingswood-Oxford School in Hartford, and was an assistant on the Nevada State Champion Green Valley High School volleyball team in Las Vegas in the late nineties. He played his college ball at Northeastern University and at the University of San Francisco as a graduate student.

Nicole played collegiate volleyball at Rutgers University, where she was the starting setter. She moved to Asheville after graduating with a degree in Nutritional Science with a minor of Professional Outreach and Development. She is originally from Ohio, where she played 7 years of club volleyball. Nicole is returning for her 3rd year coaching with BVA.


Cory is the current head coach at North Buncombe High School. He is the former assistant varsity coach & JV coach at Carolina Day School from 2010-2016. Cory played high school volleyball at Barrington & collegiate volleyball at Wheaton College. He is a certified CAP I coach and is returning for his 4th year with BVA.


Ashlyn recently moved to Asheville after graduating from The University of Alabama at Birmingham with a degree in Kinesioloy. She played on the UAB Volleyball team as an outside hitter/defensive specialist for 3 years. Prior to attending UAB she was recruited to play for The University of Tennessee at Knoxville; she was a red-shirt for 1 year then played one year until she transferred to UAB. During her college years she coached at numerous camps, was the assistant coach for NASA South 16-1 (Huntsville, AL) and also the Head coach for NASA South 17-1. This is Ashlyn’s first year coaching with BVA & we are happy to have her join the BVA coaching staff.

Michael Rhodes is a new member of the BVA coaching staff. Coach Rhodes adds a varied 40 year coaching resume covering College, High School, Recreation, Military, Grass Roots and Club volleyball to the BVA.   He served as Assistant/Head Coach at the University of Massachusetts 1980/81 and Head Coach at Marietta College 1978/79. He played and coached  in Europe from 1988 – 2003 before returning to the United States in 2004.  He resumed coaching at various clubs and schools in and around Richmond Va in 2006. Coach Rhodes was the JV coach at James River HS Midlothian, VA in 2014/15 and the 18’s assistant coach for 2 Rivers Volleyball club in 2015.
